The Exhibition Overview_ Education for All

Democratic societies need educated citizens who are well-informed critical thinkers. People need to be able to choose among different alternatives to determine their future. In this context, education has become a universal right. Goverments are required to provide free, quality education to the whole community. Today, in Brazil, a country marked by its deeply unequal and unjust past, we have been facing the challenge of ensuring access to education to our people. Thus, Brazilian democracy appears to be just a dream when one notices the precarious conditions of public education schools and how this affects the ones who benefit from education the most: the country's children.
Marcelo Sevaybricker Moreira
Professor Adjunto de Ciência Política da Universidade Federal de Lavras

In 2014, Guilherme Bergamini took to photography to portray the reality of Brazilian public education. A mixture of documentary and artistic photography, Education for All is a virtual art exhibition as well as a photobook that shows the concerns of an artist whose commitment to the social issues of the 21st century is the backbone of his artistic practice. As a metaphor within a metaphor, the images of a derelict school building reflect not only the current state of the education system in a particular country but also the perils of Western society as a whole.
