Baran Karaman is a young ceramic artist based in Turkey. Studying at the University of Hacettepe (Turkey), he explores the possibilities of the traditional techniques used in ceramic art to produce pieces that subvert the usual utilitarian nature of ceramics to transform them into art pieces made to be contemplated, rather than used. Using a Gothic style, the poetics of the pieces made by Baran Karaman revolve around the duality of life and death.

Only One is an art exhibition by ceramic artist Baran Karaman. This rare art exhibition is comprised of only one piece on display: Basic Rule. In this terracotta piece, the artist explores the idea and meaning of life in its relation to death and the humanity of the one facing the challenge. A humanity that emerges from withing the vase occluding the entrance to it making it all loose its fuctionality transforming it into an art piece that begs the question of meaning in life and of life, human life, urging the observer to reflect and taking ceramic art into another, higher level.
